The National Institute of Musicology "Carlos Vega", dependent on the Secretariat of Culture of the Presidency of the Argentine Republic, invites to submit articles and book reviews for consideration in Issue 33 (2025) for its journal Música e Investigación. Thematic Section. Music Between Latin America and the United States: Collaborations, Exchanges, Conflicts, and Negotiations
Musical exchanges between the United States of America and various Latin American and Caribbean countries have oscillated closeness and remoteness, probably due to geopolitical contexts. A dynamic of fascination and suspicion —either reciprocally or unilaterally—has shaped interests, and it has directed flows of exchange at both personal and institutional levels since the end of the 19th century and especially from the 20th century onwards. Whether through affinity or opposition, their relationships have had diverse impacts on musical development: from compositional schools in the realm of written music traditions to the internationalization of Latin American popular genres and also their most prominent performers, as well as historiographical narratives and ethnographic practices. The section of Música e Investigación 33 suggests rethinking, discussing, and exploring of possible frameworks for the relationships between the United States and Latin American countries, focusing on musical practices, circulation, and consumption.
